my six-month trip to Europe in 1954. They are
pictorial impressions of a Japanese tourist making a
whirlwind trip... If there are pictures in this book which
suggest known compositions or approaches by European
masters, it is an unwitting tribute to the impression
their work made upon me.” (Introduction). Kimura
travelled to Cairo, Athens, Paris, Germany, England,
and Italy. He was clearly influenced by Cartier-Bresson
